The Original Church

The Church of Saint Procopius dates back approximately two centuries and was the first Orthodox church in Tirana to be built after the Ottoman conquest. It was dedicated to Saint Procopius, a Christian martyr who is regarded as the patron saint of Tirana and is commemorated each year on July 8.

The original Church of Saint Procopius stood on the site that is now the courtyard of the Presidential Office. It remained in use until 1938, when it was expropriated and demolished as part of the urban development plan for New Tirana.
