Albanopoli
Tourist Attraction
Albanopolis is an ancient Illyrian archaeological site located at Zgërdhesh, near Krujë. The settlement is traditionally identified by many scholars with Albanopolis, the city of the Illyrian tribe known as the Albanoi, mentioned by the ancient geographer Ptolemy. The site preserves remains of an ancient acropolis, defensive walls and towers dating mainly from the 4th–3rd centuries BC. It is particularly significant because the name Albanopolis is associated with the historical origin of the name Albania.
